Marius Neset
Moldejazz 2027 opens with Marius Neset’s international quintet, playing music from the album Cabaret (2025) as well as new material.
Neset himself describes Cabaret as a journey through his musical life, with impulses from the different genres and musical traditions that have shaped him since childhood. Rhythmically advanced compositions, strong melodies and improvisation meet in music that constantly shifts direction, tempo and character.
The quintet consists of musicians who have been hugely important to Neset’s musical development. The pianist Magnus Hjorth and the drummer Anton Eger have played with him for over 20 years, while the keyboardist Elliot Galvin and the bassist Conor Chaplin have become key collaborators in recent years.
The music is often meticulously composed, yet leaves plenty of room for improvisation. It is precisely this tension between the strictly structured and the musicians’ individual freedom that has become a hallmark of Neset’s quintet. Their interplay is built on many years of shared experience, but also on a constant willingness to challenge the material and one another.
Marius Neset – tenor and soprano saxophone, Elliot Galvin – keyboards, Magnus Hjorth – piano, Conor Chaplin – electric bass, Anton Eger – drums

Marius Neset
Without electronics, effects or other musicians, it is the natural sound of the instrument and the acoustics of the church that set the framework for this concert.
The music takes as its starting point the solo album A New Dawn, where Neset explores the possibilities of the saxophone as a melodic, rhythmic and tonal instrument. The compositions are carefully worked out and structured, yet also serve as open frameworks for improvisation, where spontaneous ideas and the response of the room are allowed to influence the direction of the music.
The concert moves between rhythmically complex and powerful passages and the very intimate, airy and vulnerable. In this format, breath, phrasing, silence and reverberation become part of the musical expression.
Where the opening concert shows Neset in close interplay with some of his closest musical collaborators, the solo concert offers a different perspective on his artistry. Here the saxophonist and composer stands alone, in a format where the balance between the composed and the freely improvised becomes especially clear.
Concerts in our main program typically last between 60 to 90 minutes.

With an interplay that at times seems almost impossible, the French keyboardist DOMi Louna and the American drummer JD Beck have created a musical universe all of their own.
The duo first attracted attention through their videos, in which they tackled, among other things, John Coltrane’s ‘Giant Steps’ and the music of Madvillain. This soon caught the attention of Anderson .Paak, who took them under his wing and signed them to his own record label, APESHIT, in partnership with the legendary Blue Note Records.
With a distinctive sense of groove and humour, breakneck rhythmic shifts and intricate harmonies, DOMi & JD BECK deliver music that sits somewhere between jazz fusion, hip hop, funk and electronica, with touches of classical music.
On their 2022 debut album, ‘NOT TiGHT’, the duo were joined by guests such as Herbie Hancock, Mac DeMarco, Busta Rhymes and Snoop Dogg. The release was rewarded with two Grammy nominations, including Best New Artist.
In summer 2026 they released their second album, ‘WHO ASKED?’, which is strongly inspired by their collaboration with the Dutch Metropole Orkest. The album was written for a smaller orchestra with strings, woodwind and brass, and the duo use their own vocals for the first time. The result is an album that sits at a crossroads between chamber pop and orchestral jazz, flecked with electronic textures and the duo’s characteristic rhythmic complexity.
Behind the technical acrobatics are two musicians with a rare ability to make the complicated sound playful and effortless. DOMi & JD BECK have made virtuosity something entertaining, unpredictable and deeply personal.

Fatoumata Diawara
Fatoumata Diawara is pure energy. Her vibrant voice tells the story of Africa—its suffering and its rediscovered joys—sung in her mother tongue, Bambara. She is a captivating artist, able to stir emotions, to make her audience laugh, cry, and above all, dance.
A free woman above all else, she uses art as a path. Through her singing, she addresses crucial subjects such as female genital mutilation and forced marriage—personal hardships that she transforms into a universal message of hope and resilience. Having fled Mali at the age of 19 to write her own story, Fatoumata Diawara continues, at 43, to examine society’s flaws while celebrating her dual life as an artist and a mother.
A major figure in African music, whose presence on stage is always a moment of bubbling intensity!

Bjørn Eidsvåg
After half a century in the music business, Bjørn Eidsvåg stands as a pillar of Norwegian musical life. For many years he has played around 80 concerts a year in every nook and cranny of the country.
Three concerts on one and the same ticket. Bjørn Eidsvåg (1), loved by the whole of Norway, and Zimmermann (2), who is bringing his guitar to us, along with an artist we will announce at a later date (3). There will be plenty of great musical experiences at the museum this Wednesday!
Bjørn Eidsvåg is first artist on stage, starting at 18:00.
Since starting out in 1971, Bjørn has released 28 albums, played around 80 concerts every year, published a book, had his own TV and radio programmes and taken to the stage at Det Norske Teatret with his self-written play ‘Etterlyst: Jesus’, to name but a few things.
Generations of Norwegians have a close relationship with his much-loved songs such as ‘Skyfri himmel’ and ‘Eg ser’. Bjørn’s curiosity about new musical expressions has also led to many exciting collaborations over the years with well-known artists from Norway, Sweden and Denmark, including the duet ‘Mysteriet deg’ with Lisa Nilsson. The song won a Spellemannprisen in the category Song of the Year and has more than 15 million streams on Spotify.
In 2024 Bjørn turned 70 and was surprised with a concert in front of a packed Oslo Spektrum. The surprise concert ‘Ingen vei tilbake’ was broadcast on NRK1 and was the sixth most-watched programme on NRK in 2024. Later that year he set off on a major anniversary tour of the same name, breaking sales records with more than 25,000 tickets sold before the tour had even started. In autumn 2024, Bjørn was also honoured for his long career and his contribution to Norwegian music with induction into the Rockheim Hall of Fame.
Even after a long and solid career, Bjørn is still busy with new projects and creative twists. After taking part in the TV 2 programme ‘Hver gang vi møtes’ in 2023, in which both Bjørn’s own interpretations and his fellow artists’ interpretations of his songs topped the charts, he was inspired to ‘spruce up’ his own songs and give them a new guise.
Concerts in our main program typically last between 60 to 90 minutes.

Zimmermann
With millions of streams, sold-out concerts and songs that hit you right in the heart, Zimmermann has become one of Norway’s most popular new pop voices. Now he is coming to Moldejazz!
With strong melodies, honest lyrics and a distinctive blend of heartfelt emotion and humour, Zimmermann has established himself as one of Norway’s most exciting young pop artists.
Since releasing his first single, ‘Månen’, in 2022, he has racked up several tens of millions of streams and sold more than 20,000 concert tickets. The song ‘I takt med deg’, which Zimmermann made in collaboration with Bjørn Eidsvåg, has topped the Spotify Top 50 Norway chart and is now nominated for a Spellemann 2026 award in the category Song of the Year. This is the young artist’s second Spellemann nomination, after he was nominated in the category Breakthrough of the Year in 2025.
Zimmermann offers everything from dreamy ballads to energetic pop songs. With a unique gift for storytelling and a rare ability to move his audience, everything is in place for an atmospheric and unique summer concert filled with singing along, laughter and tears.
Rigla
With a distinctive blend of traditional music, jazz and vise-pop, Rigla has made its mark as one of the most exciting new names on the Norwegian music scene.
The name Rigla comes from the dialect word ‘riglafengje’, which means ‘unsteady’ or ‘rickety’ in the Sunnmøre dialect. This reflects the band’s balancing act between the fragile and the powerful, the traditional and the innovative. With a unique line-up of vocals, fiddle, saxophone, synth, cello, drums and double bass, Rigla has created its own sound, in which traditional music, jazz and vise-pop melt together into something new and unpredictable. Together they have struck a musical nerve. The band consists of young musicians from different parts of the country, with backgrounds from several of the country’s music academies.
The band released its debut album, ‘Sendebud fra Sandkassa’, in September 2026.
On the record, the band has drawn inspiration from everything from everyday moments such as late nights out, annoying people and hangxiety, to the small, wondrous situations you can suddenly find yourself in when faced with love that is painful, absurd, beautiful and close.
Klassekampen said: ‘Sendebud fra Sandkassa is an impressive debut. The last message has not been sent from this lot.’
And GAFFA reported: ‘The sextet plays with appetising arrangements and choral vocals. This is a debut worth waiting for.’
Through quirky and witty lyrics, combined with a unique line-up and fearless blending of genres, Rigla sits somewhere between tradition and innovation, between the tender and the playful. The result is ten songs, each with its own character, that invite both dancing and tears.
Recently, Rigla has made a strong impression on the Norwegian music scene. In the past year they have been named Urørt of the Month on P3, played at festivals such as Øyafestivalen and by:Larm, and performed at Riksscena. Now they are ready for Moldejazz 2027!

Aksel Rønning trio
With saxophone, electronics and live sampling, the Aksel Rønning Trio stretches the boundaries of what a jazz trio can be.
The saxophone is at the centre as the Aksel Rønning Trio plays freely between acoustic jazz, electronic soundscapes and improvisation. The group, which has its roots in the Scandinavian jazz tradition, takes an exploratory look at electronica and modern improvisation. Through their unique combination of improvisation and musical playfulness, they create a constantly shifting sound in which new musical landscapes emerge in the moment.
With curiosity and a constantly exploratory approach to the music, the Aksel Rønning Trio invites the audience into a sonic landscape where tradition meets innovation. Their dynamic interplay and boundless approach to the genre have led to comparisons with everyone from Jan Garbarek to Petter Eldh.
‘This is brave, different, exciting and unique’, wrote Tor Hammerø in Nettavisen, while Arild R.
