Bjørnsonhuset has since the opening in 2002 been the main stage for our jazz-concerts. Every year this is where we host the biggest jazz-names partaking in the festival.
With a capacity of approx. 900 and up-to-date facilities, any concert in Bjørnsonhuset presents an exclusive experience.
Alexandraparken (18+)
Alexandraparken has been a regular venue since 2003 and has been an especially important arena during the daytime. In 2009 we chose to extend the offer to also include ticketed concerts in the evenings from 19:00.
The line-up for Alexandraparken should leave no doubt that this is our largest party-scene. Get grooving!
Alexandraparken Daytime
The Alexandra Park has been used by Moldejazz since 2003 and has been a very important venue during the daytime. In 2009, we chose to expand the offering to also include ticketed concerts in the evening.
During the daytime, there are free concerts from 12:00 to 16:00, featuring talents from around the country. Come in and enjoy a variety of great concerts, in addition to drinks, snacks, waffles, and food.
Accessibility:
Separate entrance for disabled individuals on the west side at the dock level (slight slope down from Storgata). A dedicated disabled toilet is available, please contact the guards. Flat ground on asphalt in the concert and bar tents, but some thresholds in the form of cable ramps. Limited accessibility within the upper park area.
Romsdalsmuseet
Moldejazz's largest stage is idyllically situated between old wooden houses at the Romsdal Museum, one of Norway's finest folk museums. The museum concerts have an audience capacity of up to 5.000 and are very important for having a wide concert offer to our audience.
The concerts at the museum are free for children under school age accompanied by an adult.
Reknesparken
Inspired by the song «Break of Day in Molde», we have organized a free «Break of Day» concert in Reknesparken, Molde's largest park area. Bring a picnic basket and enjoy your breakfast to world-class musical accompaniment. This is a festival event that you definitely would not want to miss.
Teatret Vårt (PLASSEN)
In Teatret Vårt we present exciting and challenging music in several rounds per day. We host concerts for both sitting and standing audience, with the night concert commencing at midnight.

Storyville (PLASSEN)
Storyville is Moldejazz «own» stage. The venue is on the 4th floor of the cultural building Plassen and has a capacity of 130 seats. Here we present exciting and challenging music in an intimate and beautiful arena at Gørvelplassen in the centre of Molde.
Molde Cathedral
In Molde Cathedral, a magnificent church of post-war architecture, Moldejazz has tradition to present jazz with popular appeal, usually with origins from New Orleans. Traditionally, the church concerts are some of the first to be sold out.
Storgata
The festival's Street Parade performs every day during the festival. They start from Scandic Alexandra Hotel at 11.30 and walk to the Daae corner before they go back and eventually ends up at Alexandraparken.
Kafé Kurt
Kafé Kurt's ambition is that their menu is to reflect the commitment, quality and creativity of the cultural institutions located at Plassen. The chefs take great pride in cooking from scratch with good ingredients, preferably from local suppliers. You'll find them via their entry on street level.
Taket (Plassen)
The roof of Plassen is a gem, with limited capacity. But the views of the city, the fjord and the 222 mountain peaks are indescribably beautiful! Access from the outside via Sandvegen (north side of the building), or via elevator inside the building.

Møre og Romsdal Art Centre
Møre og Romsdal Art Centre (MRK) on the 3rd floor of the Plassen Cultural Building is one of 15 art centers spread across counties in Norway. The center was established in 1978 and is organized as an association with two members, Biletkunstnarane i Møre og Romsdal (BKMR) and Norske Kunsthåndverkere Midt-Norge (NKM).

Hjertøya
Hjertøya is one of the "Moldeholmene", a group of several long islands and islets in the Romsdalsfjord. Hjertøya is a nature reserve and recreational area with beaches, scenic hiking trails, and a museum. Compared to the old fishing villages along the Romsdal coast, Hjertøya is a tranquil idyll in the Molde Fjord. The island is wooded, with sheltered bays, offering plenty of space for play, swimming, hiking, and in our case - concerts/performances!
Fuzzy Platebar er en av Norges beste platebarer! Aktiviteten er høy, med bl.a. konserter, plateslipp, vinylsalg, musikkbingo og musikkquiz. Rett og slett et kult sted med flott atmosfære. I kjelleren på Fuzzy er det et eget konsertlokale, der vi i Moldejazz har konserter. Lokalet er ikke HK-tilpasset, og man må ned en trapp for å komme til lokalet. Det er to toalett i kjelleren.
Varden
From the viewpoint Varden (407 meters above sea level), you can admire the city of Molde, the fjord with its islets, and the famous Molde panorama with 222 mountain peaks. It takes 10 minutes by car or 1 hour on foot along a nature trail from Molde city center ("The Green Corridor"). Moldejazz's concert at Varden takes place at the old Vardestua, up to the right just before you reach the current Vardestua.
Accessibility The venue is on a gravel area and is not adapted for accessibility, with a limited number of handicapped parking spaces available. The concert is with standing audience. In 2024, it will be possible to take a bus up to the concert from the bus stop in the city center.
The town of Molde is beautifully situated by the Romsdalsfjord on the northwest coast of Norway. The airport, Årø, is only a 10 min. drive from the town centre.
If you choose to fly to Molde it will take you approx. one hour from the largest cities in Norway – Oslo, or Bergen. Another alternative is to drive, which on average takes 7 hours from Oslo and 9 hours from Bergen. From Trondheim, the journey only takes 4 hours. It is also possible to travel to Molde by train and bus.
However, if you are travelling from somewhere along the coast from Bergen to the North Cape, using Hurtigruten, the renowned coastal liner, is an experience not to be missed!

Taxi
During the festival week, Molde Taxi is located west of Scandic Alexandra Hotel, and at the main bus stop in city centre.
At night, the taxi queue is organized by guards for best possible efficiency.
The nearest railway station is at Åndalsnes, and from there you can take the corresponding bus to Molde (Aprx 1 hour drive). There are trains from Oslo, and from Bodø via Trondheim and Dombås. vy.no

If you have ever been to Moldejazz, it is hard to miss the Jazzlogen – the parade band playing during the daily street parade throughout the week.
Since its inception in 1995, the Jazzlogen has consisted of 50-70 young people aged 14-20 years, who have spread the joy of playing and gathered the city's population daily during the festival. This group of young musicians is referred to as Moldejazz's face outwards and therefore has an important role during the festival week.
The music played by the Jazz Lodge is mainly New Orleans music, both traditional and modern.
We practice the repertoire for the street parade during three seminar weekends, which are usually held in January, April and the weekend before Moldejazz. We are in a close partnership with Ytre Suløens Jass-ensemble (YSJE), who teach the musicians with a teaching technique called auditory play; the participants learn the songs "on the ear", i.e. a teaching method that does not involve reading notes. The Jazzlogen musicians learn how to use different listening techniques and memorize the songs. They will also learn the basic principles of improvisation where those who want will have the opportunity to improvise.
Ytre Suløens Jass-ensemble
Ytre Suløens Jass-ensemble is one of Norway's oldest traditional jazz orchestras. The band has existed since 1973 and has played numerous concerts both nationally and abroad. As of today there are musicians from both the first, second and third generation in the band. Despite replacements in the band in recent years, the band has still preserved the legendary "Suløen-sound".
Molde Janitsjar
The seminars are administered by Molde Janitsjar in collaboration with – and on behalf of – the Molde International Jazz Festival.
The band has been in operation since 1929 and is thus a cultural tradition carrier in the city of Molde with members from 15–73 years who have a good social community, pleasant concerts and play-outs / marching.
A small group of members is responsible for the practical implementation and administration of the Jazzlogen.
Jazzlogen is perfect for you who's:
Between 14–20 years old (or turn 14 during the year of the festival)
Play wind, brass instrument, drums or percussion
Wish to learn to play by ear
Wish to learn basic improvisational techniques and skills
The jazz festival:
Moldejazz is held in week 29, every year. The street parade starts every day at 11.30. In addition, they also have a selection of other playing jobs during the week.
By taking part in at least two seminars, you'd get:
Accreditation – free access if tickets are available – to many of the festival jazz concerts and thus an inspiration for expanding your horizon in the world of jazz.

Accommodation during the seminars must be arranged by each participant. During the festival week, it's arranged with affordable accommodation for members of the Jazzlogen.
Moldejazz is the oldest continously running jazz festival in the world (as of 2020), as well as the most important one in Norway. It was founded in 1961.
The festival is organized every year in July on the 29th week of the year, and we have a close relationship with several other festivals both nationally and internationally.
Moldejazz is a foundation, with a permanent administration working throughout the year consisting of 5 FTEs. Annual sales are approx. 30 million NOK.
During 6 hectic days in week 29, the festival is host to about 120 concerts. We sell approx. 22,000 tickets and are visited by around 500 artists, 600 volunteer worker lends us a helping hand and more than 60,000 people visit Molde during the festival week.
Apart from the artistic, we take care of several business areas related to festival sales and restaurant activities, sponsorship work and more.
In addition to the festival itself, we also offer year-around jazz concerts in collaboration with Storyville Jazz Club in Molde. In 2012, we moved into the Plassen, a cultural building in the centre of Molde, together with Storyville Jazz Club, Teatret Vårt, Molde Library, the Bjørnson Festival and Møre and Romsdal Art Center. Plassen is a cultural melting pot of sorts, and has between 500–600 events in a year!
Moldejazz is the oldest continously running jazz festival in the world, as well as the most important one in Norway.

Moldejazz has been certified as an «Environmental lighthouse» [no: Miljøfyrtårn] since 2006 and was re-certified in 2021. The environmental lighthouse is a national environmental certification program that is directed towards small and medium-size companies/organizations.
Through fulfilling industry requirements within HSE, work environment, energy, purchasing/material use, transport emissions to air and water and aesthetics, we demonstrate that Moldejazz has the will to tackle environmental problems directly. At the same time, we give our audience and volunteers the opportunity to be environmentally conscious while attending Moldejazz.
Moldejazz takes responsibility and solves environmental issues where they appear, namely in our local community. That's how we contribute to more sustainable development in Molde.
Debio's «Golden mark»
In 2014, 2014 and 2015 Moldejazz has qualified for Debio's «Golden mark», which requires at least 90% approved ecological food service during the festival.
Moldejazz' longtime project «Green food to blue tones» is maintained by the festival cooperating with a series of subcontractors that deliver ecological and local products. When Moldejazz aims for as much ecological food as possible, it's because of a wish to spread knowledge about the relationship between humans and nature. When we choose ecological food, we receive products that don't only taste good but also do good.
To Moldejazz, quality music and ecological food are naturally connected. Food quality is a staple in the cooperation with our subcontractors. We are not only interested in the ecological aspect, but also production quality, good taste and use of local and regional distributors.
How environmentally friendly Moldejazz is, is largely dependant on how environmentally friendly our collaborators are, in addition to the routines we have self-imposed and facilitated. We, therefore, urge all our collaborators and guests to keep the environment in mind.
Many of our collaborators and distributors have come a long way in their environmentally focused work, and is already certified as an «environmental lighthouses». Some of our collaborators that are environmentally certified are e.g. Maske Gruppen AS, Istad Kraft AS, Thon Hotel Moldefjord, TIBE Molde AS, Møre & Romsdal County.
Moldejazz' procurement policy
We will improve our environmental performance annually. Control of purchasing is one of the most important areas to focus on to achieve this. Before a purchase is made, an assessment must be made. When purchasing material that will last more than one festival, a life cycle analysis must be performed, with clarification of the products environmental impact and any related documentation.
Environmental criteria must be set in all our purchases, and we will choose environmentally certified suppliers over those that can not prove environmentally friendly operations – and/or that only supply a limited amount of environmentally friendly products.
Environmental checklist:
Check available confirmed environmentally friendly products on the market (Swan, EU-Flower, Debio, Good environmental choice, TCO and Økotex 100 etc).
Choose primarily ecological food products (Ø-branded). Moldejazz has a goal of achieving more than 90% ecological food service for its audience, artists and functionaries.
Check what is available of environmentally declared products - EPD (certified by ISO-standard).
Always check relevant suppliers environmental profile, and if they are environmentally certified (documentation and statement must be sought out and saved on Moldejazz servers).
Recycle materials when scrapping, by giving to charitable organizations (T-shirts, leftover food etc.)
SpareBank 1 SMN was founded in 1823, but the bank came to Møre & Romsdal in 2005; when Romsdals Fellesbank was absorbed. In total, the Sparebank 1 SMN group consists of 1200 employees, where well over 100 work in our county. Molde and Ålesund being the big bridgeheads.

How long have you been sponsoring Moldejazz? Every year, but from 2007 we decided to become the general sponsor. In 2017 we still hold this position - something we intend to continue in the years to come.
Do you have any collaborative projects with Moldejazz? Developmental stipend "Jazz-talent of the year" and "JazZtipendiat (jazz fellow) of the year". Through these programs, young talents have had the opportunity to put together new bands, write new music and most importantly: perform at next years festival.
The agreement still involves support to "Jazzologen" and Moldejazz' year-round activity through its cooperation with Storyville Jazz Club. In addition, the agreement involves a renewed commitment to educational opportunities, primarily through earmarked support to workshops and masterclasses.
