Aksel Rønning trio
With saxophone, electronics and live sampling, the Aksel Rønning Trio stretches the boundaries of what a jazz trio can be.
The saxophone is at the centre as the Aksel Rønning Trio plays freely between acoustic jazz, electronic soundscapes and improvisation. The group, which has its roots in the Scandinavian jazz tradition, takes an exploratory look at electronica and modern improvisation. Through their unique combination of improvisation and musical playfulness, they create a constantly shifting sound in which new musical landscapes emerge in the moment.
With curiosity and a constantly exploratory approach to the music, the Aksel Rønning Trio invites the audience into a sonic landscape where tradition meets innovation. Their dynamic interplay and boundless approach to the genre have led to comparisons with everyone from Jan Garbarek to Petter Eldh.
‘This is brave, different, exciting and unique’, wrote Tor Hammerø in Nettavisen, while Arild R. Andersen in Jazz i Norge has highlighted the trio’s great creative freedom. The Aksel Rønning Trio has released four albums and toured extensively in both Norway and Europe. In 2026 they were selected as the only Norwegian band to play a showcase concert at the international jazz fair jazzahead! in Bremen.
Through live sampling, atmospheric melodies and intricate rhythms, the trio creates music that both challenges and delights, and appeals to a wide range of music lovers.
Now they are ready to take the stage at Moldejazz 2027, and we are eager to see where their musical journey takes us this time.
Concerts in our main program typically last between 60 to 90 minutes.
