corto.alto
Danceable, experimental, and melodically limitless
With their catchy and slightly mysterious name, corto.alto – already renowned as one of the most vibrant live bands on the UK jazz scene – is a collective that leaves a strong impression wherever they play. In 2026, Moldejazz will host them, and we couldn’t be more excited!
Corto.alto is a modern jazz collective led by trombonist and producer Liam Shortall. The band brings together some of the most exciting young musicians in British jazz, creating an original and distinctive sound world with drums, horns, synths, strings, and guitars. Their music is driven by strong melodies, clear jazz elements, and a heavy, pulsating groove – at once danceable, experimental, and melodically rich.
The name Corto.alto, meaning “short, high” in Spanish, reflects both the band’s contrasts and the creative energy flowing from Glasgow’s vibrant music scene. Shortall’s love of hip-hop, soul, club music, and experimental jazz shines through in every track, producing music that draws you in and leaves you wanting more, more, more.
It is this energy that has earned Corto.alto spots at major international festivals, sold-out tours, and growing global attention. Now, it’s Molde’s turn.
