“Pieces of Scattered Dreams”
Trondheim Jazz Orchestra is one of the most important and creative jazz ensembles in Norway. Since its establishment in 2000, the orchestra has engaged in numerous exciting projects with Norwegian and international jazz figures such as Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, Sofia Jernberg, Maria Kannegaard, Erlend Skomsvoll, Eirik Hegdal, Jenny Hval, Jason Moran, Skrap, Motorpsycho, Ståle Storløkken, among many others.
The list of spectacular collaborations is extensive and always open for upcoming generations to participate in, as TJO is continuously evolving and never with a fixed lineup.
I LIKE TO SLEEP, consisting of Amund Storløkken Åse on vibraphone and Mellotron, Nicolas Leirtrø on bass-VI/baritone guitar, and Øyvind Leite on drums, has grown up within the flourishing music community of Trondheim. They decided early on to settle there to continue exploring and developing the music scene in their beloved hometown. Starting the trio while in high school, closely observing the renowned jazz program in Trondheim and TJO, I LIKE TO SLEEP has evolved into an award-winning band and one of the most exploratory powerhouses within the Norwegian jazz and rock scenes over the past 10 years. Through groundbreaking work they call "powerjazz to the people," they strive to create music that can be for everyone, where one can find everything; it's there for you, you just have to listen closely.
In "Pieces of Scattered Dreams," I LIKE TO SLEEP invites Trondheim Jazz Orchestra into their universe, both musically and visually, with the intention of challenging the band and the music in new compositional and improvisational directions. ILTS is a monstrous orchestral three-headed organism in itself, and together with TJO, they become a 12-headed trio that expands and explores the power jazz universe.
The lineup and dream team are chosen very carefully and with high precision to reflect ILTS's desires and interests regarding sound and instrumentation. This has resulted in a band filled to the brim with legendary musicians and two technicians with wizard-like abilities, each inspiring and contributing an enormous variety of specializations - from being the biggest energy bombs to masterminds capable of making delicate musical choices. Everything is set for the greatest journey in I LIKE TO SLEEP's dreamy sleep universe, and of course, there will be power jazz for all.
