A Powerful Finale to Moldejazz with Free Improvisation and a Rising Jazz Star
Alexander von Schlippenbach og Paal Nilssen-Love | Sasha Berliner
Moldejazz concludes this year’s festival with two concerts that showcase the breadth of contemporary jazz expression — from uncompromising European free jazz to one of the most exciting new voices on the international scene.
At Teatret Vårt on July 18, Alexander von Schlippenbach and Paal Nilssen-Love meet in an exclusive duo format. Here, two generations of improvisational music come together in an intense and unpredictable musical dialogue. Schlippenbach has been a key figure in European free jazz since the 1960s, while Nilssen-Love is one of the leading driving forces in today’s improvisation scene. Together, they create an open musical expression where interplay, energy, and the power of the moment take center stage.
Later that evening, Sasha Berliner takes the stage at Storyville. The Los Angeles–based vibraphonist has quickly established herself as one of the most innovative artists of her generation, with critically acclaimed releases and collaborations with major names in international jazz. With her own band, she presents a modern and genre-fluid expression in which acoustic and electronic elements merge seamlessly.
The concerts mark a finale that both looks back to jazz’s experimental traditions and forward toward new expressions and directions.
Together with artists such as Charlotte Dos Santos, Daniel Herskedal, Bech & Skeidsvoll New Orleans Band, and Blåsemafian, the festival’s final day is truly beginning to take shape.
With just over two months until the festival begins, tickets are selling quickly. The museum concerts in particular are proving highly popular, while the park concerts are also attracting strong audiences. Ytre Suløens Jass Ensemble at Molde Cathedral is already among the most sought-after events.
