Jazz Course for Young Singers

The Jazz Programme at Molde Upper Secondary School and Molde Music School, in collaboration with Moldejazz, are pleased to invite you to a jazz course for young singers during Moldejazz 2026!

Welcome to the Jazz Course for Young Singers!

Do you love to sing and are curious about jazz? Then this course is for you! You’ll meet like-minded participants, get the chance to try improvisation, sing together, attend concerts, and enjoy great festival experiences during this year’s Moldejazz.

The course takes place July 16–18 at Molde Music School, located in the heart of the festival city.

This year, as last year, we are fortunate to have Siril Malmedal Hauge leading the course. She is a professional jazz vocalist with extensive experience in both teaching and performing in vocal groups such as Trondheim Voices.

Together with Siril, participants will sing, improvise, explore, and play with their voices.

We will also collaborate with students from the Jazz Programme, and participants will have the opportunity to join them on stage for a short part of their concert at Storyville on Saturday. This gives participants the chance to perform on a real Moldejazz stage! Participation in this is, of course, optional.

Our goal is to create a safe and relaxed environment where playfulness and low pressure are key. The social aspect is also important—we will sing, eat, and attend concerts together.

The course coordinator, Sondre Ferstad, will accompany participants throughout the activities and be available all day. Participants will stay at Molde Folk High School, which offers a calm environment during the festival, with night staff and breakfast included. Participants from Molde and the surrounding region are also encouraged to use the accommodation, as it enhances the social experience.

The course is limited to a maximum of 10 participants.

Age group
The course is for those with some singing experience—for example through a music school, choir, or simply a strong interest in singing. Participants from all over the country are warmly welcome! The main target group is students starting 8th, 9th, or 10th grade this autumn, though exceptions can be made for those slightly younger or older.

Price
The participation fee is NOK 1,800 and includes meals, accommodation, workshops, and accreditation for all Moldejazz concerts.

It is important to us that everyone who wishes to participate has the opportunity to do so. If financial circumstances make it difficult to cover travel or participation costs, you may apply for partial financial support. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch at: sondreferstad@gmail.com

Programme
A detailed programme will be announced closer to the festival.

The course starts Thursday, July 16 at 13:00 and ends Saturday, July 18 at 18:00.
