Irreversible Entanglements

Storyville (PLASSEN) 395,- fees incl.

This is likely to become one of the festival highlights!

Entanglements is a free jazz collective with a clear political background and direction. They combine their love for music and humanity with an insistent expression and high energy. With associations to legendary ensembles like Bitches Brew, Art Ensemble of Chicago, and Sun Ra, they bring grooves and swing to the stage, while balancing seriousness and playfulness.

With strong musicians like bassist Luke Stewart, saxophonist Keir Neuringer, trumpeter Aquiles Navarro, and drummer Tcheser Holmes, along with the charismatic front figure Camea Ayewa, better known as Moor Mother, they have created an ensemble that is both powerful and uncompromising. The band was formed in 2015 after a demonstration against police violence in Brooklyn, driven by friendship, shared drive, and a shared concern for social development in the USA.

Based in Philadelphia, New York, and DC, they shamelessly blend musical references and opinions, rooted in the free jazz tradition. Their predominantly acoustic expression, combined with Moor Mother's lyrics and voice, creates a captivating sound. At the same time, they experiment with electronic elements, alternative instrument techniques, and percussion, making the listening experience exciting, unexpected, and interesting.

Their debut album "Irreversible Entanglements" from 2017 was well received by critics and fans, and the follow-up "Who Sent You?" from 2020 established them as a clear voice in political and socially critical music. The successor "Open The Gates" from 2021 challenged their acoustic expression with more use of electronics, while "Protect Your Light" from 2023 found a good balance in their artistic visions.
