For the opening concert of Moldejazz 2026, Artist in Residence Esperanza Spalding invites the audience into a deeply sensorial and genre-defying performance—where music, movement, and memory merge
From uplifting serenades to at times deeply moving ballads, esperanza spalding’s latest project reveals her deep grounding in the classical jazz tradition, shaped through the living practice of improvisation. In this concert, she will perform original music created during her residency in Norway. By uniting expressions ranging from the ancient to the innovative, in collaboration with Norwegian dancers and musicians, she creates music that honors and connects her to her great-great-great-grandmother, who emigrated from Norway to the United States.
