An evening with esperanza spalding
Opening concert
An exclusive evening with esperanza spalding and special guests
For the opening concert of Moldejazz 2026, Artist in Residence esperanza spalding invites the audience into a deeply sensorial and genre-defying performance—where music, movement, and memory merge
In this World Premiere program of new interdisciplinary performance compositions, esperanza explores the history of Norwegian migration to the Southern United States. Embellishing on the few known circumstances of her own great great great grandmother's emigration in the late 19th century from Norway to Arkansas, esperanza charts a musical, narrative, and movement based course through the various social, economic, religious, and otherwise forces leading to Norwegian migration to the American South. Performed by esperanza on bass and vocals, in collaboration with local Norwegian musicians, story-keepers, historians, and movement artists.
