Plassen Takeover med Trondheim Jazzorkester
«Find a place you trust, and then try trusting it for a while”
New concept for Moldejazz 2025 – this is something you don’t want to miss!
“Find a place you trust, and then try trusting it for a while”
This is how Sister Corita Kent’s 10 rules for creativity begin, popularized among others by John Cage in the 1960s.
Moldejazz has placed its trust in Trondheim Jazz Orchestra as Artist in Residence for 2025, and we in TJO have found our place to trust. On July 16th, we’re taking over the Kulturhuset square for an entire day, filling it with music/art/history/tradition/future glimpses – basically with WHATEVER. We’ll use the entire house, from the tiniest bathroom stall to Teatret Vårt, with both conventional concerts and spontaneous musical stunts throughout the day – as one big band, and as many small ones.
All day, all TJO, all over!
Trondheim Jazz Orchestra is a band, an idea, and a concept. A recipe for success, where the ingredients change with each serving – a musical phoenix that is reborn in new outfits, forms, and with new musicians every time.
Since its beginning in 2000, the ensemble has spotlighted Norwegian composers and musicians in countless different projects, including collaborations with international stars like Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, Bill Frisell, Joshua Redman, and Jason Moran – but also with the crème de la crème of Norwegian and Nordic composers and musicians: Erlend Skomsvoll, Eirik Hegdal, Sofia Jernberg, Maria Kannegaard, Kim Myhr, Jenny Hval, Stian Westerhus, Ståle Storløkken, Marius Espen Berg, Marius Neset, Ole Morten Vågan, and Signe Emmeluth, to name a few.
The fact that the orchestra is constantly reborn in new forms means TJO continuously regenerates – just like the human body replaces all its cells over a decade, TJO tries to do the same a couple of times a year! For our 25th anniversary in 2025, we’re coming to Moldejazz to celebrate the music, the band, and the audience – to find both new and overgrown paths, and to discover new musical collaborators. We couldn’t imagine a better way to celebrate 25 great years than spending week 29 together with you in Molde!
