Maridalen

Norway’s most charming trio – ready for Moldejazz!

Fuzzy 295,- fees incl.

The critically acclaimed jazz trio Maridalen takes both its name and inspiration from the beautiful valley just north of downtown Oslo. Since their debut in 2021, they have conjured up three albums, all of which have received glowing reviews. Their first album, Maridalen, was named one of “Norway’s Best of the Year” by Aftenposten, while the legendary MOJO Magazine highlighted it as one of the best international jazz releases of the year. Their follow-up album, Bortenfor, continued the success story, listed among “The Best Jazz Albums of 2022” by Dagsavisen and selected as “Album of the Month” by Germany’s WDR.

Their sound? Just as you’d imagine: vibrant, intimate, and inspired by their surroundings – recorded in locations ranging from an old wooden church in Maridalen to a DNT cabin on Gressholmen island. With concerts in Romania, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, and the UK – including a performance at the prestigious London Jazz Festival – the trio has firmly placed Maridalen on the international jazz map.

In April 2023, they embarked on a new adventure, this time to Gressholmen in the Oslofjord, where they recorded their third album. The result? A new musical gem that has been warmly received both at home and abroad. After two sold-out concerts at Oslojazz last year, we are thrilled to welcome Maridalen to Moldejazz!

When Maridalen plays, we are invited on a musical journey through forgotten places, quiet nighttime streets, old city buildings, and legendary islands. The trio’s intimate soundscape – created by double bass, trumpet, and woodwinds – opens the doors to small adventures filled with moods and stories. Their music is open, close, and beautiful, giving space for each musician’s unique voice.

Get ready for a magical evening with Maridalen at Moldejazz!
